How to keep a cut avocado fresh for days

Avocado is one of the most popular foods, being perfect for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We all know that it doesn’t last long if we choose not to eat it all at once. Here are some ways to keep a cut avocado fresh for days.

Avocado can be kept in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, but the whole fruit, not cut. If you choose to use only half of it, leave the kernel inside. If you choose to remove the peel and kernel, place it in a sealed plastic bag (take the air out of it as much as you can).

Here’s what you can do to keep it fresh for a longer time:

Avocado fruit pulp begins to become brown as soon as you cut it, due to an enzyme that oxidizes in contact with the air. There are many people who don’t like to eat a brown avocado.

Use olive oil
The half of avocado that you don’t use, cut it with olive oil. This creates a natural barrier to oxidation.

Lemon juice helps maintain freshness
Lemon juice inhibits oxidation. Rub the half of avocado with lemon, or sprinkle a little lemon juice.

Onion, another secret for a fresh avocado
What to do: put a few large pieces of onion on the bottom of a recipient. Put the avocado face down on the onion or sprinkle a few pieces of onion on the avocado.
